Phase 3 of the Grass River Natural Area boardwalk is currently being built to extend the trail system deeper into the wetlands while preserving the sensitive ecosystem beneath it. This phase focuses on installing new elevated boardwalk sections with durable, weather-resistant materials that can withstand the challenging terrain and fluctuating water levels. Construction emphasizes minimal environmental impact, using careful placement and lightweight equipment to protect native plants and wildlife. Once completed, Phase 3 will enhance accessibility, create new opportunities for nature observation, and provide visitors with a seamless, immersive experience through one of Michigan’s most diverse natural habitats.
